Meet The Doctors!
+ Kevin Smith, M.D. +
Dr. Kevin T. Smith is a member of Metro Denver Anesthesia and Metro Denver Pain Management. He is Board certified in anesthesiology, and in pain management. He practices both interventional, medical, and multidisciplinary chronic pain management treating various disorders that range from simple to complex and include pain conditions involving nearly every aspect of the body. He has over ten years of private practice experience in both pain management and anesthesiology. Although, He treats primarily conditions involving the lumbar, cervical and thoracic spine, he also treats numerous other pain conditions, which are not limited to but include intercostal neuroglia, pelvic and abdominal pain, whiplash injuries, and headaches, complex regional pain syndrome in the upper and lower extremities, postherpetic neuralgia, shingles, myofascial pain syndrome and also in management of cancer pain. Dr. Smith is capable of performing essentially every type of spine injection from epidurals, facet blocks, nerve root blocks, sacroiliac joint injections, to intercostal nerve blocks and sympathetic blocks, and performs radiofreqency ablation in patients with chronic facet pain in the spine, and various sympathectomies. He also is trained and experienced in advanced procedures such as spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pump implants, a percutaneous disc decompression.
Dr. Smith believes in a multidisciplinary approach, which may include medications and referrals to other sub-specialists and alternative pain therapies as well. He is capable in his diagnostic skills and therefore if conservative pain management fails. Patients may be benefitted by a referral from their primary care specialists to Dr. Smith for pain management prior to surgical intervention, pain management abilities and less invasive pain management interventional techniques.
Dr. Smith, trained at Indiana University and then practiced in Albuquerque, New Mexico for four and half years after completing his training and helped develop a multidisciplinary pain clinic and then joined Metro Denver Anesthesia in March, 2000. He practices in Denver and Aurora and more recently he started a practice in Parker, and Littleton, Colorado.
+ Christopher J. Huser, M.D. +
Dr. Christopher J. Huser is a member of Metro Denver Anesthesia and Metro Denver Pain Management. He is fellowship trained and board certified in Interventional Pain Management. Dr. Huser is a member of the International Spine Intervention Society (ISIS,) and the North American Spine Society (NASS.) He practices interventional, medical, and multidisciplinary management of both acute and chronic pain. The range of problems that he treats include but are not limited to lumbar and cervical radiculopathy, spondylosis, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, myofascial pain syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, intercostal neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, whiplash injuries, cancer pain and chronic nonmalignant pain. Dr. Huser believes in active management of pain which may include medications, physical therapy, injections, and multidisciplinary management. He is trained in the work up and diagnosis of pain syndromes.
Dr. Huser graduated medical school from Indiana University, performed his anesthesiology training at Northwestern University, and completed his pain fellowship at Northwestern University. He joined Metro Denver Anesthesia in 2006 and practices in Denver and Aurora.

+ Giancarlo Checa, M.D. +
Dr. Giancarlo Checa graduated from the Colorado Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. He completed his anesthesia training at Yale University and a Fellowship in Pain Management at the University of California at San Francisco. He is board certified in both anesthesia and pain medicine. Dr. Checa practices a holistic approach to the treatment of pain that includes medical, interventional, and multi-disciplinary pain management techniques. Dr. Checa diagnoses and treats a variety of pain conditions including but not limited to: the cervical and lumbar spine, occipital neuralgias, atypical headaches, myofascial pain syndromes, whiplash injuries, post herpetic neuralgias, sacroiliac joint pain, facet pain, pelvic and abdominal pain, cancer pain and complex regional pain syndrome (RSD).
Dr. Checa is a member of the American Society of Anesthesia, the International Spine Intervention Society, and Colorado Pain Society.
+ Mindy M. Evangelisti P.A.-C, M.M.S. +
Mindy M. Evangelisti P.A.-C, M.M.S. is the newest addition to the Metro Denver Pain Management team. She received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology with an emphasis is pre-medical chemistry from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York. She continued on to obtain her Masters of Medical Science from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania.
Mindy is a board certified Physician Assistant with extensive experience in treating patients with post-operative, acute or chronic pain. Through her previous pain management position she was extensively train on trigger point and joint injections. She prides herself on her steady, caring touch and ability to give injections that cause less pain.
Prior to entering the field of pain management Mindy worked as a Physician Assistant at a neuropsychological clinic. She worked with substance abuse, depression, anxiety and all forms of dementia. She is also well versed in pelvic pain, TOS, CRPS, neurostimulators and most internal medicine diagnosis. She is very excited to join our practice and welcomes all established patients.

Meet The Office Staff!
+ Margaret B. Keith, LPN +
A graduate from Albuquereque New Mexico, Meg received her degree as an LPN in 1968.
Most of Meg’s nursing career had taken place in Emergency room trauma with specialty in head and chest trauma and cardiac codes. Her status as LPN I changed to LPN II at that time in California for extended responsibilities and upgrade of licensure after advanced training.
Meg began working in Pain Management 14 years ago with Dr. Mary Jo Curran in Chicago, Illlinois. She transferred to Colorado and began working with Metro Denver Pain Management in 2003. Meg’s primary responsibilities include Scheduling, & Medication management assisting for two physicians and a physicians assistant in office. Meg assists office staff and physicians with Medtronic pump refilling and stimulator reprogramming. Meg is also the liaison between patients and physicians. She is supportive to the pain management patient regarding their needs, both physically and emotionally.
